This is batch 14 of the Still & Barrel Proof rye from MB Roland, a Kentucky distillery in Pembroke established in 2009. It comes in a 750ml bottle at 55.3% (110.6 proof), uncut and unfiltered, with no water added at any stage.
The whiskey was matured in new number four char barrels, and the mashbill is 68% rye, 27% white corn and 5% malt. The batch, proof, barrel type and mashbill are all handwritten on the front label.
The nose is grain-forward, with rye spice, vanilla, char and dry herbs over caramel. The palate is full and oily, with black pepper, clove and caramel against toasted oak. The finish is long and warming, ending on spice, char and firm tannin.
