Mellow Corn is a Kentucky straight corn whiskey from Heaven Hill, distilled from a mash of at least 80% corn.
It is aged for four years in once-used bourbon barrels, rather than the new charred barrels that bourbon requires. It was named best American non-bourbon whiskey at the 2015 World Whiskies Awards.
It is pale straw in colour. The nose is oak with delicate spice, and the palate is full-bodied and textured with a softly spiced sweetness. The finish is sweet and chewy, much like a Barbadian rum.
