Michter's – Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey (43%)

Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash is an American sour mash whiskey bottled at 43% ABV without chill filtering. It is not a bourbon. After a first maturation in standard casks, the whiskey moves into specially toasted new oak barrels for a second period. Toasting heats the wood without charring it, which caramelises the sugars in the oak. The nose brings brown sugar, caramelised banana, toasted wood, raisins and butter. On the palate come marshmallow fluff, pepper, cinnamon, warming spice and honey. The finish has rye-like notes of cinnamon and mint, with ripe fruit and caramel.
