Middle West Spirits Double Cask Sherry Finish is a five-year-old bourbon from Columbus, Ohio, bottled at 48.63% ABV (97.25 proof) in a 750ml bottle.
The whiskey matures first in freshly toasted American white oak barrels, then takes a secondary finish in sun-blackened Spanish Solera sherry casks. The mashbill combines yellow corn, soft red winter wheat, pumpernickel rye and two-row barley.
The nose brings gingerbread, molasses, dried fruit and cigar box. On the palate come cherry, plum, dates and marzipan around nutty dark chocolate. The finish is medium-long, with dry oak, walnut syrup and stone fruit.
