This is a five-year-old rye whiskey from Middle West Spirits of Columbus, Ohio, bottled at 49.75% in a 75cl bottle.
The mashbill is 80% dark pumpernickel rye, 5% Ohio-grown soft red winter wheat, 5% yellow corn and 5% two-row malted barley. It was first aged in medium-toasted American white oak, then finished in French Tawny Port casks.
The nose shows cinnamon, nutmeg and ripe stone fruit. On the palate there are plum, dried fig, bitter chocolate and nutty caramel, with rye spice building. The finish is long and warming, with baking spice, dark fruit and cocoa.
