Midleton Very Rare 2024 marks forty years of a series that began in 1984. Master Distiller Kevin O'Gorman blended Single Pot Still and Single Grain whiskeys aged between 12 and 33 years. It was released on 28 February 2024 at 40%, in a 70cl bottle.
The whiskeys were chosen from Warehouse A2, a traditional stone warehouse dating from the 1860s. They matured in first-fill barrels that previously held American whiskey, with a smaller share of refill barrels of the same kind.
The nose is rich vanilla with floral and herbal notes, ripe apple, sweet pear, cinnamon, clove, fresh-cut hay, toffee and heather honey. The palate is silky and full, with peach, nectarine, crème brûlée and toffee apple. The finish is long, with fruit and American oak fading gently.
