Mortlach 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from the Mortlach distillery in Dufftown, which was founded in 1823 and was the town's first legal distillery. It is bottled at 43.4% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The distillery is known for its '2.81 distillation' process, which gives the whisky a complex and elegant character. Medium to full in body, it is sweet and spicy in the mouth.
The nose balances oak and sandalwood with light spice, toffee caramel and red berries. The palate brings sugar, dark chocolate, cherry jam and a hint of tobacco. The finish is long, with dark chocolate and cherry sweetness and a savoury, meaty depth.
