Mortlach 13 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from Dufftown, bottled at 55.9% in a 70cl bottle and known as The Moonlit Beast.
The whisky was matured in a combination of virgin and refill American oak casks. Its spirit is distilled 2.81 times through six stills of differing shapes, and the distillery carries the nickname The Beast of Dufftown.
The nose is meaty and woody. On the palate, smoothness gives way to savoury spice and intense vanilla sweetness, with virgin oak sounding clearly above it. The finish is warm and dry.
