A 16 year old Mortlach single malt from Signatory, bottled at 43.4% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is drawn from sherry casks, whose rich sweetness is set against the intense spirit the distillery is known for.
Expect dark fruit, treacle and punchy Christmas spice. The nose brings gingersnaps and orange peel with roast chestnut, apple, blackcurrant pie and quince. The palate opens with mature oak, then prune, clove, macadamia nut and a touch of baked earth. The finish is long, with oily walnut, chewy raisin and ginger returning later.
