Mortlach 16 Years Old is a single malt matured in sherry casks and bottled at 43.4% ABV. It was announced in 2018 as one of three expressions.
The richness of the sherry sweetness complements the intense spirit for which the distillery is known, and the whisky leans towards dark fruit, molasses and spicy Christmas flavours.
The nose offers ginger biscuits and orange peel, with hints of roasted chestnut, apple, blackcurrant tart and quince. The palate opens with ripe oak, then plums, clove, macadamia nuts and a touch of baked earth. The finish is lingering, with oily walnut and chewy raisins, and more ginger later.
