Mortlach 20 Year Old "Cowie's Blue Seal" is a Speyside single malt from Dufftown, bottled at 43.4% in a 75cl bottle. It is named for Dr Alexander Cowie, who developed Mortlach's 2.81 distillation method.
The whisky was matured in a combination of refill and first-fill sherry casks. The blue seal on the label refers to Dr Cowie's personal wax seal, which he used in the distillery records.
The nose offers sherry-soaked fruit, dark chocolate truffles, polished oak and dried rose petals. On the palate come fig, black cherry, treacle and spice, followed by a long, warming finish of walnut, espresso and soft leather.
