This is a Mortlach single malt distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2020 by Signatory Vintage at 59.9% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. It is the first release in the Small Batch Cask Strength Edition.
The whisky matured for eight years in a sherry butt and two refill hogsheads, which were combined for bottling.
The nose brings light and dark grapes with warm honey sweetness and nutty tones, alongside milk chocolate, sponge cake and lemongrass. The palate is very sweet and full, with peaches, stewed apples and ripe plums, then a meatier turn of trail mix and a little coconut. It feels creamy and is surprisingly mild for its strength. The finish is long, with grated orange peel, maple syrup and black tea.
