Black Brier is a straight bourbon from Nelson's Green Brier Distillery in Nashville, Tennessee, bottled at 53% ABV (106 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It belongs to the Cask Finish Series.
The bourbon is finished in casks that previously held Imperial Stout beer. The beer adds no alcohol, but the roasted, malty, chocolatey character the wood took up from the stout carries into the whiskey.
The nose brings brown sugar, cacao nibs, malty oats and a little stout richness. On the palate there are chocolate, toffee, pecan and dark cherry with roasted grain, and the finish is long and warming with baking spice, black tea and vanilla.
