This is a six-year-old Kentucky straight malted rye from New Riff Distilling, bottled in bond and without chill filtration.
New Riff describes it as a malted whiskey first and a rye second, with plenty of spice delivered in a polished way.
The nose is savoury and floral, with powdered sugar, oak, vanilla and fruit such as plum skin and pear. The palate is plump and rounded, with finely balanced spice, saltwater taffy, clove and a toasty, malty note. The finish stays focused on spice, with clove and pink peppercorn.
