Nikka Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Wood is a single malt from the Miyagikyo distillery, finished in casks that previously held apple brandy. It is bottled at 47% in a 70cl bottle.
Nikka made this limited edition of 6,450 bottles to mark the 100th wedding anniversary of its founder Masataka Taketsuru and Rita, who married in Glasgow on 8 January 1920. Apples are tied to their story, as Rita encouraged him to sell apple juice and jam while his first whiskies matured.
The nose combines apple, caramel, honey, cinnamon, pepper and oak. The palate adds Calvados and peppery heat. The finish is spicy, with spiced apple toddy, cinnamon and a slight bitterness.
