Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast is a Japanese single malt from Nikka's Miyagikyo distillery, part of the Discovery Series. It is bottled at 47% in a 75cl bottle, without chill-filtration.
The focus is yeast. An aromatic strain from Nikka's own culture collection, used in part of the vatting, produces peach-like fruity esters during fermentation. Miyagikyo was founded near Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture by Masataka Taketsuru as his second distillery under Nikka.
The nose is ripe peach and apricot with pear, lavender, marshmallow and vanilla. The palate shows candied peach, then clean barley and a brioche-like richness. The finish is long and silky, with stone fruit and honey.
