Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast is the unpeated Miyagikyo release in the second Nikka Discovery series, from 2022. It is a limited single malt bottled at 47%, built around selected yeasts chosen to bring out fine fruity aromas, which puts fermentation at the centre of the edition.
It has a pronounced malty base, with green, floral, creamy and light fruit character.
The nose offers lavender, marshmallow, liquorice and malted barley, later pear, peach, apricot and vanilla. On the palate there are barley field, brioche, pear and white peach, with acacia honey. The finish is long and silky, with sage, chamomile and a trace of cigar smoke.
