Nikka Miyagikyo Discovery Peated (70cl, 48%)

This is a peated single malt from the Miyagikyo distillery in Japan, bottled by Nikka at 48% in a 70cl bottle. The release is limited to 4812 bottles. The peat is the centre of the whisky. It makes itself known when it is needed and steps back at other moments, alongside fruit, light smoke and a sweet side. The nose combines toasted bread, dry peat and twigs, with passion fruit, mango and fresh figs. On the palate there is lime-blossom honey and hyacinth, with a salty, mineral middle. The finish is long and balanced, with peat, chocolate, vanilla and saffron.
