Nikka Miyagikyo is a Japanese single malt in a 70cl bottle, bottled at 45% ABV. It comes from the Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture, a site Masataka Taketsuru chose in 1969 for its pure water and humid climate.
The spirit is distilled in tall pot stills heated by indirect steam, and matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks.
The tasting notes describe ripe peach, floral honey and clove on the nose. The palate offers fresh apple, light oak and spice with a gentle sherried warmth, and the finish is clean, with vanilla, toffee and a little nutmeg.
