Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt is a Japanese whisky from The Nikka Whisky Distilling, in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV.
It shows a bright, lively gold with a copper tinge. The character leans towards the Miyagikyo style, with winey, chocolatey depth, while a touch of tobacco and smoke recalls Yoichi distillates.
The nose combines ripe peach and plum with banana, a little lemon, dark chocolate, vanilla and liquorice. The palate is gentle and creamy, with chocolate, a coffee-with-milk richness, some astringency and pepper. The finish is long and glycerine-smooth, with peppery warmth and a recollection of sherry casks.
