Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old is a peated single malt Japanese whisky from Nikka's original distillery in coastal Hokkaido, in a 70cl bottle at 45%. The distillery was founded by Masataka Taketsuru, who brought Scottish methods to Japan in the 1930s.
Yoichi still uses direct coal-fired pot stills, which add weight and character to the spirit. Maturation in cask gives the whisky a maritime edge and a firm structure.
The nose combines smoky peat and sea air with golden apple, honeyed vanilla and a hint of citrus zest. The palate is creamy malt with light peat, vanilla, pear and gentle salinity. The finish is long, with dry peat, soft oak and a touch of sweetness.
