Nikka Yoichi Single Malt is the flagship expression of the Yoichi Distillery, founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru on the coast of Hokkaido. Yoichi still uses direct coal-fired pot stills. This bottling is 45% ABV, non-chill filtered, in a 70cl bottle.
The colour is bright gold. The nose balances mellow peat smoke and briny sea air with candied orange peel and white flowers.
The palate is full-bodied and oily, with toasted oak, nutty cereal, yellow plum and peach, plus earthy smoke, ginger and black pepper. The finish is long, with herbaceous peat and a salty, maritime tang.
