Octomore 14.2 is a five-year-old Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, distilled in 2017 from barley harvested in 2016. It is super heavily peated, at 128.9 ppm, and bottled at 57.7% ABV.
The spirit spent four years in Oloroso sherry casks (40%), first-fill Amarone casks (16%) and second-fill Amarone casks (44%), then a further year in Pauillac wine casks. The Oloroso and Amarone casks were chosen by head distiller Adam Hannett.
The nose brings smoke and red fruit, with malt and porridge notes. On the palate come toasted oak, wood spice, burnt coffee, barbecue sweetness, black pepper and fruitcake. The finish is smoked malt, smouldering oak and sea salt.
