Octomore 17.1 is the first release in the 17 series from Bruichladdich on Islay, a five year old single malt matured fully in first fill bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 59.7% in a 70cl bottle.
It is made from 100% Mainland Concerto barley and peated to 81.0ppm, giving smoke and char.
The nose pairs vanilla milkshake, Scottish tablet and warm custard with pear drops and malt syrup. On the palate the peat builds in waves, with dry earthy smoke, smouldering oak and ash. On the finish, salinity cuts through the sweetness.
