Octomore 17.2 is a five-year-old single malt from Bruichladdich on Islay, the second edition in the 17 Series, titled Chromatic Signatures. It is distilled from 100% Scottish mainland Concerto barley malted to 81.0 PPM.
Four of its five years were spent in second-fill French oak that previously held Californian red wine and then bourbon, before a finish in first-fill port barriques.
The nose combines ripe red fruits, raspberry and blackcurrant preserve, Turkish Delight, toasted oak, clove and aniseed, with dry, wood-fired smoke. The palate is viscous, with wine-poached berries, building peat smoke and lemon zest. The finish is long, with raisins, toasted oak and sweet malt fading to maritime salt and char.
