This is a 15 year old Kentucky straight bourbon from Pappy Van Winkle, made to the Van Winkle family's wheated recipe and bottled at 107 proof. The label carries the year 2008 and the Stitzel-Weller name.
The barrels were chosen from the heart of the ageing warehouses and left undisturbed in deep-charred oak for the full fifteen years. Pappy Van Winkle himself rose from travelling salesman at W.L. Weller & Sons to president of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery.
The nose is sweet, with caramel corn and vanilla. On the palate come leather, oak, caramel, toffee, complex fruit and peppery spice, and the finish is long, with spice and oak tannins.
