Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 20 Year Old is a Kentucky bourbon matured for twenty years at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. It is bottled at 45.2% ABV.
It won a Double Gold Medal at the 2014 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The nose offers stewed fruits, sweet spices and white chocolate. Rich oak and creamy custard follow on the palate, with a smooth mouthfeel often compared to Cognac. The finish is long, with honeycomb, peppery spice and prune.
