Peerless Double Oak Rye (75cl, 53.5%)

Peerless Double Oak Rye is a barrel strength Kentucky rye whiskey, bottled at 53.5% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It is made by Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. in Louisville, a name that goes back to 1889 in Henderson and was revived by descendants of the original founder, who began distilling again in 2015. The rye is made with a sweet mash. It is aged first in a new charred oak barrel, then moved to a second new charred oak barrel, and bottled without chill filtration. The nose is sweet oak with orange, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon and clove. The palate offers molasses, toffee, black pepper and clove, then floral notes, dark chocolate and toasted oak. The finish is long, with candied smoke.
