Penderyn – 8 Year Old 2014 SMWS Single 1st Fill Moscatel Butt Finish 128.27 Chilli Danish Wasp Stings (70cl, 59.5%)

This is an 8 year old Welsh single malt from Penderyn, distilled in 2014 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 128.27, under the name Chilli Danish Wasp Stings. It is bottled at 59.5% ABV, and the single cask gave 628 bottles. Selected casks of the spirit were moved at two years old into a variety of different casks to develop further, and this one finished in a first-fill Moscatel butt. The nose is fruity, with strawberry jam, wine gums, apple pie, preserved pears and cherry liqueur. On the palate come sticky maple pecan danish, runny honey and candy floss, then a sweet liquorice with an intense chilli centre. With water, cherry chocolates, sandalwood and tonka beans appear, and the mouthfeel is soft and chewy.
