Pōkeno Exploration Totara Cask is a New Zealand single malt from Pōkeno Whisky Company, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
It was first matured in first-fill bourbon casks, then given a second maturation in handcrafted New Zealand tōtara barrels. The native wood is responsible for its distinctive character.
On the nose there is creamy coconut, sweet sap and ripe white peach, with freshly cut wood and a little vanilla. The palate brings bitter lemon and stone fruit, then dark chocolate and sweet, creamy wood. The finish is long and sweet, with stone fruit, dark chocolate, coconut and toasted wood.
