Port Askaig 28 Years Old is an Islay single malt from a small batch of refill American oak hogsheads that previously held bourbon. It is bottled at 45.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtering or added colour. The distillery is not named; Elixir Distillers selected the casks purely on quality. The long maturation has added complexity while keeping the peaty, salty character.
The nose is fresh and herbal, with mint, pine resin, tea leaves, tar, smoked almonds and tropical fruit. Salt, butter, coconut, orange peel and bacon lead the palate, with old oak, smoke and heather. The finish is medium in length, with cedar spice, sea salt, lemon peel, peach and wood smoke.
