Port Askaig Cask Strength is an Islay single malt released in small batches of no more than 60 casks, each with its own batch code. This 2024 batch is bottled at 59.1% ABV.
Its casks were 34% Pedro Ximenez butts, 36% refill butts and hogsheads, 28% Oloroso sherry butts and hogsheads, and 2% bourbon barrels.
The nose has spicy lemon peel, black peppercorns, toasted bread with marmalade and waves of thick smoke. The palate brings salted citrus, peat smoke, rich layers of toffee and lightly scorched spiced biscuits. The finish carries peppery warmth, tarry smoke, chewy caramel, candied lemon and smoked oak.
