This is Whisky Sponge Edition 35, an 18 year old Port Charlotte from Bruichladdich on Islay, distilled in 2003. It comes from a single first fill ex-bourbon barrel that yielded 197 bottles. It was reduced slightly to 57.1% ABV and is bottled in 70cl.
The nose offers oranges, clementines, yoghurt and damp hay, with wispy peat, langoustine broth and golden syrup over sponge cake. The palate is potent and bonfire-tinged, with leather, oak, smoked salted lemon and ripe peach. The finish is long, with zesty lemon and damp smoke.
