This is Whisky Sponge Edition No.35, an 18 year old Port Charlotte from Bruichladdich on Islay, distilled in 2003. It comes from a single first fill bourbon barrel that produced 197 bottles, reduced slightly to 57.1% ABV.
The label shows bees, with the workers dancing to tell the scientists where the whisky is located while the queen lounges nearby.
The nose brings oranges, clementines, yoghurt, cream cheese and damp hay, with wispy peat, langoustine broth and golden syrup over sponge cake. The palate is potent and bonfire-like, with leather, oak, smoked lemon and ripe peach. The finish is long, with zesty lemon and damp smoke.
