Port Charlotte PMC 01 is a peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, bottled at 54.5% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It belongs to the Cask Exploration series and spent the second half of its maturation in Pomerol wine casks from Bordeaux. The phenol level is 40 ppm.
The nose combines warm peat smoke and red fruit with pear, melon, rose, geranium, vanilla, honey, leather and toasted oak, later adding cloves, ginger and a little marzipan. On the palate, malt sugar and peat smoke come with a full, viscous texture and notes of blackberry, plum and old leather. The finish is soft and maritime, with shellfish, a little citrus and elegant peat smoke.
