Port Charlotte SC:01 2012 is a nine year old heavily peated Islay single malt, distilled in 2012 at Bruichladdich from 100% Islay barley peated to 40ppm. It was released in June 2022 in a 70cl bottle at 55.2% ABV, without colouring or chill filtration.
The cask recipe is a mix of sherry butts and first and second fill American whiskey barrels, each re-racked into first or second fill casks that previously held Sauternes, the Bordeaux dessert wine.
The official notes describe peaches in syrup, dried apricot and honeysuckle on the nose, with peat smoke arriving in time. The palate is smoky and fruity with leather, and the finish is marine and citrusy.
