Port Charlotte SC:01 2012 is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich Distillery, conceived, grown, distilled, matured and bottled entirely on Islay. It was distilled in 2012 and matured for 9 years.
The barley was 100% Islay-grown from the 2011 harvest, supplied by seven farming partners within ten miles of the distillery, and malted to 40ppm. Three parcels of whisky first aged in sherry butts and first- and second-fill American whiskey barrels were then moved into first- and second-fill Sauternes wine casks from Bordeaux.
The notes mention honeyed sweetness, coconut, fudge, delicate floral notes and rich fruit, with barbecue-style peat smoke.
