R. Jelinek Gold is a 10 year old Czech slivovitz, a plum brandy made by Rudolf Jelínek in Vizovice, Bohemia. It is bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle.
The spirit is made from hand-harvested plums that are fermented and triple distilled, then aged for ten years with alternating temperature and measured contact with air. This gives a deep amber colour and a cognac-like character. The gold style grew out of a brandy-making partnership with Denis Mounié that began in 1923.
The nose offers ripe plum, dark cherry, vanilla, toasted oak and honeyed spice. The palate is full and layered, with black plum, cinnamon, clove and toasted almond over a woody base. The finish is long and warming, with stone fruit and gentle oak.
