A single barrel Kentucky straight rye from independent bottler Rare Character, bottled at cask strength of 59.35% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
Barrel R80-025 held its rye for 7.8 years in charred new American oak, and the whiskey was bottled without chill filtration.
Cracked black pepper and dark honey lead the nose, with toasted oak and baking spice. On the palate pepper and spice come first, then honey and a herbal rye grain character. The finish is long and warming, with toasted rye bread and dry oak tannin, and a faint mint coolness at the end.
