Red Spot is a 15 year old single pot still Irish whiskey, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The name comes from the Mitchell family of Dublin, who began trading on Grafton Street in 1805 and moved into whiskey bonding in 1887. They marked casks of different ages with a spot of coloured paint, and Red Spot was one of those marks.
The whiskey matured in a combination of American bourbon casks, Spanish sherry butts and Sicilian Marsala wine casks.
The nose offers pot still spice, cooked fruit, baked apple, mango and black cherry, with hazelnut, a touch of new leather and toasted oak. On the palate, ripe fruit sweetness meets red and black pepper, American oak and barley. The finish is very long, with fruit and spice.
