Red Spot 15 Years is a single pot still Irish whiskey from the Midleton Distillery, bottled by Mitchell & Son at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered.
The whiskey spends 15 years maturing in three kinds of cask: ex-bourbon casks, sherry butts and Marsala casks.
The nose is spicy from the pot still, with stewed fruit, baked apple, mango and black cherry, plus hazelnut, leather and a hint of toasted oak. The palate is sweet with ripe fruit from the Marsala casks, followed by red pepper, freshly ground black pepper, other spices, oak and barley. The finish is long, led by fruit and spice.
