Redbreast 27 Year Old Ruby Port Casks Batch 7 (70cl, 55.8%)

This is Redbreast 27 Year Old, a single pot still Irish whiskey from the Midleton distillery in County Cork. Batch 7 was bottled at a cask strength of 55.8%, without chill-filtration or added colouring, in a 70cl bottle. Ruby port casks join bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks in the maturation. Triple-distilled whiskeys from these cask types are married, and the mash bill is equal parts malted and unmalted barley. The nose brings mango, pineapple and blood orange with red berries, vanilla and toffee. The palate is rich and smooth, with plums, black cherries and a faint chilli tingle. The finish is long, keeping ripe fruit and spicy wood in balance.
