Emerald Rye is an American rye whiskey from Redwood Empire, bottled at 45% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It blends rye distilled in Indiana with the distillery's own California spirit, drawn from barrels of three to five years old that matured in new charred American oak.
The mashbill is 95% rye and 5% malted barley. The name comes from the Emerald Giant, a fast-growing redwood species.
The nose is grainy rye with brown sugar, cinnamon, caramel and toasted oak. On the palate, black pepper comes first, followed by vanilla, cereal and citrus peel. The finish is medium to long, with honey, orange peel and a dry, peppery fade.
