Redwood Empire Lost Monarch is an American whiskey blending straight bourbon and straight rye, made by Redwood Empire Distilling in Sonoma County, California. It is bottled at 45% ABV and named after one of the largest redwood trees on earth.
The blend is roughly 55% rye whiskey and 45% bourbon, drawn from barrels aged around 3 to 14 years in new charred American oak. The bourbon adds caramel and vanilla, the rye adds spice and herbal lift.
The nose offers vanilla, caramel, orange zest, clove and cinnamon. On the palate are maple, brown sugar, citrus and vanilla, then rye spice and pepper. The finish is medium, with pepper, oak and caramel.
