Van Duzen Rye is a grain-to-glass California rye whiskey from Redwood Empire Distilling, bottled at 47% in a 750ml bottle. The mashbill is 67% rye, 31% malted barley and 2% wheat, and the barley gives the whiskey a soft, bready character. The name comes from the Van Duzen River in Humboldt County. The nose brings angel food cake, warm cocoa and raspberry tart. On the palate there is malt chocolate, vanilla and fresh dough, with black pepper building towards the back. The finish is moderate, with lemon cake and banana.
