Rittenhouse Rye Single Barrel (75cl, 50%)

A Bottled-in-Bond straight rye whiskey from Heaven Hill in Kentucky, bottled at 50% in a 750ml bottle. It comes from a single barrel rather than a blend of many, so each bottling reflects the character of that one cask. The mashbill is 51% rye, 35% corn and 14% malted barley, and the whiskey is aged in new charred American oak. As a Bottled-in-Bond whiskey, it is at least four years old. The nose combines rye bread spice and cracked black pepper with vanilla, caramel, dried orange peel and nutmeg. On the palate there is rye spice, brown sugar and cinnamon, then dark chocolate, toasted nuts and dried stone fruit. The finish is long, dry and warming, with black pepper and a little cocoa bitterness.
