Sagamore Spirit Double Oak Rye is a Maryland straight rye whiskey from Sagamore Distillery in Baltimore, bottled at 48.3% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It is a blend of two rye mash bills: one at 95% rye, the other at 52% rye and 43% corn.
It matured for four to five years in high-char new American oak, then spent 18 months in toasted wave stave barrels. These are low-char, medium-plus-toast barrels whose wavy staves increase contact with the wood.
The nose is caramel, dark vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon butter and orange peel. The palate brings toasted coconut, hazelnut, pecan, chocolate praline and black pepper. The finish is medium-long, with apple crumble, cinnamon and dark chocolate.
