Sakurao – Single Cask #5149 Bourbon Barrel (70cl, 59.6%)

This is a single cask single malt from Sakurao Distillery in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, facing Miyajima. The whisky was distilled in October 2018, matured in a bourbon barrel and bottled in October 2021 at 59.6% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. It is the first single cask release picked for the Asian market by Mr. Yamamoto, the distillery's chief blender, who also released the first edition of Sakurao single malt. Golden in colour, it has a nose of vanilla and coconut with a soft peatiness. The palate brings maple, honey and soft tropical fruit alongside peat. The finish is refreshing and sharp, with a sweet aftertaste.
