Scarabus is an Islay single malt bottled by Hunter Laing, drawn from an Islay distillery that is not named. It was released for Fèis Ìle 2019.
The name is Old Norse for 'rocky place' and comes from a legendary part of Islay. Golden symbols decorate the bottle.
The nose is maritime peat smoke, sea spray and sea salt, with a faint touch of vanilla and oak spice. The palate brings oak charcoal, old leather and stewed fruit, with vanilla sweetness returning between the peat smoke. The finish is lingering campfire smoke, salted caramel and fresh berries.
