Shenk's Homestead is a Kentucky sour mash whiskey from Michter's Distillery, released each year as a tribute to John Shenk. He was the Swiss farmer who founded one of America's oldest distilleries in 1753.
The 2018 edition was matured in specially toasted French oak barrels. It was bottled at 45.6% in a 70cl bottle, from batch L18C260, in a run of 1810 bottles.
The nose is warm spice, burnt sugar, subtle vanilla and light wood. The palate offers soft caramel, cloves, raisins, sweet malt and oak. The finish is long and slightly spicy, with a warm sweetness.
